In the video below, James Clarke of "The J Team" and the La Collina Team put in a full day's work milling and stickering (stacking the boards with wooden "stickers" between each to ensure proper drying) about 2,000 board feet of Black Walnut and Cherry logs. (James returned a few months later to mill even more Cherry and Walnut, as well as Oak and Maple.) The slabs must dry for a few years before they can be used (the general rule is one year for every inch of board thickness), but we have already begun turning the bowl blanks and more completed bowls will be available in the months to come. We have already taken some pre-orders on some of the beautiful slabs (dining, side and coffee tables) and are looking forward to beginning work on those pieces once the wood is stable!

Rough Shaping an Ash Bowl
This is one of four 10-foot long pieces each of which were over 4 feet in diameter. See Argo, strolling past them, for scale.
The tree from which these came was cut down just over the CT/NY border and left by the side of the road by the road crew. It had some rot - which is why it was cut down by the State - but most of wood is beautiful and should keep me busy for some time. They were fun to get home...
